Padres pitcher Casey Mize slipped up in a unusual and detrimental method on Saturday.

Mize, acquired by the Padres from the Tigers before the commerce deadline, slipped down steps in the dugout after the second inning of his begin against the Twins.

He twisted his ankle during the slip, which led to him being eliminated from the recreation with two outs in the third inning. Mize suffered a sprained proper ankle due to the dugout mishap.

“I think my spike got caught on like the edge of the step, I guess, and then it kind of just made me slip a little bit. I tried to catch myself, and I ended up rolling my ankle kind of on the bottom step there,” Mize said after the recreation.

Perhaps Mize might not have stayed in the recreation for much longer in any case, as he had given up three residence runs in the first two innings. His ultimate line was 4 runs on 4 hits, one stroll, alongside with three strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings pitched.

The hope is that Mize won’t miss much time because of the ankle damage so that he can assist San Diego earn a playoff spot. Then again, he hasn’t helped the Padres thus far, posting a brutal 7.00 ERA in his 4 begins since being traded. He had a stellar 2.70 ERA in 16 begins with the Tigers before getting traded.
