Pete Rose’s agent Ryan Fiterman posted a heartfelt message on Instagram following the passing of Pete Rose on Monday.
MLB’s hit king died at his Las Vegas home after he was discovered by a family member. Rose was 83.
“A beautiful day in Nashville yesterday w/The Big Red Machine. I LOVE YOU HIT KING,” Fiterman wrote in a social media post featuring Rose along with Cincinnati Reds icons Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey Sr., Tony Perez and George Foster at the Music City Sports Card, Collectibles and Autograph show, which included a broken heart emoji and a crown emoji.
Rose has a complicated history with baseball as one of the sport’s all-time greats, who also has had part of his legacy overshadowed by his lifetime ban for betting on baseball.
Still as a player, Rose retired as MLB’s all-time leader in hits (4,256), singles (3,215), games played (3,562), at-bats (14,053), and plate appearances (15,890). Additionally, he captured three batting titles and two Gold Gloves.
He also won three World Series titles.
In a statement released by the Reds, owner Bob Castellini called Rose “one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen.”
“Our hearts are deeply saddened by the news of Pete’s passing,” Castellini said. “He was one of the fiercest competitors the game has ever seen, and every team he played for was better because of him. Pete was a Red through and through. No one loved the game more than Pete and no one loved Pete more than Reds Country. We must never forget what he accomplished.”
Major League Baseball also released a statement on Rose’s passing.
“Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose’s family, his friends across the game, and the fans of his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia and beyond who admired his greatness, grit and determination on the field of play. May he rest in peace,” MLB said in a statement.
In a statement to TMZ, Fiterman said the Rose family “is asking for privacy at this time.”
