What occurred to former Washington Commanders proprietor Dan Snyder after his $6.05 billion sale of the crew in July 2023?
Snyder offered the crew to personal fairness investor Josh Harris after congressional, state and NFL investigations that revealed a poisonous office tradition, sexual harassment and monetary improprieties under his possession — and he has been residing a life of anonymity in London since, according to some former associates and others within the league, who spoke to Front Office Sports.
“Talk about a guy that’s gone invisible,” one former affiliate of Snyder informed the outlet.

“He’ll never be back,” a second former Snyder affiliate said. “In London, they… don’t bother him. Just let him be over there.”
Snyder, who turns 62 in November, moved to London with his spouse Tanya before the sale of the Commanders was accomplished.
He has maintained a low public profile and there is no public information of him returning to professional sports activities possession.
“From what I have gathered through just talking to people, the league has just totally moved on from him,” a former crew staffer who labored for Snyder said. “You convey up that identify, individuals are like, ‘What?’ Like, ‘Nah, never mind.’
“And I think he’s over there just basically living a life of anonymity. Nobody in London gives a s–t who Dan Snyder is. And it’s probably mutually beneficial. The people in London don’t care…. It’s one of those things where thank God I don’t spend much time thinking about [it]…. It’s just weird. It’s like talking about a movie sometimes…. People would be like, ‘Really?’ Yeah, believe it or not, that actually happened.”
A high-ranking official with one NFL crew defined that that communication with Snyder was principally minimize off after the controversy.

“I don’t think anybody is in touch with him about anything…. I don’t know who he hangs out with,” they said. “I don’t know who he talks to. Certainly nobody in the NFL is talking to him.”
Snyder had spent more than $67 million on a house in a luxurious central London improvement, Bloomberg reported last August, including that the household’s 305-foot yacht, the Lady S, had traveled around the UK and elements of mainland Europe.
That Bloomberg report also said that Snyder UK Investments had allotted to Apollo Global Management “offerings as part of its private markets bets.”

In January 2025, ESPN reported that Snyder was wanting to purchase into a Premier League crew after promoting the Commanders to Harris – who owns the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils.
There is no public file of Snyder buying a professional soccer crew.
“I heard he was interested as a potential investor soon after he sold the Commanders,” the former Snyder affiliate said. “But I haven’t heard anything recently…. He’d still prefer to own the [Commanders].”
A second former Snyder affiliate added: “The only thing he’d buy back into would be European soccer.”
Forbes estimates Snyder’s internet price at $4.7 billion.
Snyder was at the middle of a number of controversies since he acquired possession of the crew in 1999.
