Rumors have continued to swirl around New York City FC star Nicolás Fernández Mercau regarding his future with the membership. 

But with a little more than a week left in the MLS summer time switch window, Fernández Mercau is expected to stay with NYCFC barring a huge last-second provide, a supply with data of the scenario instructed The Post. Rumors had began earlier this summer time after a report surfaced that NYCFC had turned down a sizable provide for Fernández Mercau and that the participant had requested a switch out of the Big Apple. 

Fernández Mercau has become a star with NYCFC since the membership introduced him in during the 2025 summer time switch window, and his 13 objectives this season are tied for third among all MLS gamers during the common season. While the rumors have raised questions, the supply insisted that New York City FC “[doesn’t] want to let him go” and that, as half of the membership’s dedication to successful, the 26-year-old Argentine footballer matches into that plan.

“Winning comes with Nico Fernández [Mercau],” the supply said. 

Club officers have all but confirmed the curiosity in Fernández Mercau during varied conferences with the media but have not outright commented on the conversations they’ve had with the star. Journalist Germán García Grova first reported July 21 that the NYCFC star had instructed the membership of his intention to be transferred. 

And over the weekend, a number of reports indicated that Sporting Kansas City — a crew whose entrance workplace is led by former NYCFC sporting director David Lee — had made a bid for Fernández Mercau value up to $25 million.

NYCFC officers have not been shocked by the curiosity in the star striker contemplating his success in MLS. 

Sporting director Todd Dunivant instructed The Post and amNewYork earlier this month that the membership was “having a lot of” conversations with Fernández Mercau and the events were “keeping in close communication.”

Despite the rumblings, Fernández Mercau’s play on the pitch has remained spectacular.

Following the World Cup break, Fernández Mercau scored objectives in three straight video games, and while he doesn’t have a purpose since July 31, he has recorded assists in NYCFC’s last 4 matches between the common season and Leagues Cup. 

Fernández Mercau has been completely happy to be with the crew, the supply said. The NYCFC striker has not been made out there to the media since the reports surfaced. 

Dunivant did reward Fernández Mercau’s skill to proceed his sturdy play despite the off-field noise, giving him credit score for “showing up and performing under those types of circumstances.”
