Homeowners’ battle against Mamdani’s tax: Letters

Published on

The Issue: New York City owners’ authorized battle against Mayor Mamdani’s new pied-à-terre tax.

The listening to concerning the pied-à-terre tax to be paid by owners was a farce (“Homeowners ‘under attack,’ ” Aug. 19).

Mayor Mamdani’s administration did not present up and he was conveniently on trip. This exhibits these owners he doesn’t care about them. He only desires their cash.

Letters were despatched out and their names were put on-line for all to see, which one could say is an invasion of privateness. Maybe the federal authorities can look into investigating what seems like extortion of owners.

Even these who do not match the pied-à-terre {qualifications} were despatched a letter and now must present data to show they shouldn’t have to pay further taxes.

Mamdani is making the wealthy climb Mt. Everest.

This wasn’t what they had in thoughts after they labored their rear ends off all these years. They thought the consequence would be fairly the reverse. Enter the tax-Jackal from Hell, who sits on his rear finish and decides who he’s going to rip off in the present day.

“What’s yours is mine,” he says with a sinister glee. “New rules. You make it, I take it. Thank you.” So much for life in the land of the free.

Kevin Moriarty

San Luis Obispo, Calif.

I am mates with an aged couple who own and occupy a single-family dwelling in Staten Island, value roughly $1 million.

Mamdani’s pied-à-terre tax doesn’t apply to them, but they were despatched a letter alongside with presumably hundreds of other hardworking, tax-paying middle-class individuals.

Mayor Mamdani, it is time for your administration to be held accountable for its mailings and unfair taxes, which have burdened harmless individuals.

Jeff Cooperman

Land O Lakes, Fla.

Those who are topic to Mamdani’s silly tax should sue him. These owners pay property taxes and put little or no burden on the metropolis’s infrastructure, colleges and public providers. Aren’t they already paying their fair proportion?

Raymond Fontana

Westbrook, Conn.

In order to cease this fully disgusting ripoff, all owners want to not pay their property taxes. Let them put a lien on your property. We will pay it later when this ridiculous attack is dismissed in the courts.

If we shut off the cash provide for Mamdani’s agenda, it’s assured this nonsense will cease.

The Issue: Democratic socialists pushing Medicare for All as an various to non-public medical insurers.

Sally C. Pipes’ column says Medicare for All would be a nightmare (“Socialist Scam,” Post Opinion, Aug. 19).

As a doctor, I acknowledge that well being care for many Americans is already a nightmare; 40% of Americans have medical debt.

In other Western nations with some kind of common health-care system, individuals dwell longer, more healthy lives than we do. The thought that it prices more is improper.

We want some kind of regulation to guarantee good well being care at a cheap worth. We want Medicare for All.

Marc Lavietes

Bradley Beach, NJ

The situations of conventional Medicare are quickly approaching these of the proposed Medicare for All, as provide does not appear to be conserving up with demand.

With practices owned by hospitals and non-public companies, there is less incentive to accommodate beneficiaries in a well timed style. I have to wait eight weeks for a referred MRI appointment and the same eight weeks for a dermatologist. It is beginning to really feel like the Canadian single-payer system.
