A fast-moving wildfire close to the Tahoe area has exploded to roughly 2,500 acres, with evacuation warnings now in impact for California communities close to the Nevada border.
The Hawk Fire was estimated at 2,500 acres as of 3 p.m. Saturday, according to fireplace crews.
The blaze is spreading quickly and could already be bigger.

The fireplace erupted northeast of Verdi in Washoe County, Nevada, about 30 to 40 miles north of the Lake Tahoe space.
High winds and low humidity have helped the flames race across the panorama.
Containment stays at 0%.
Now California communities are on alert.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office issued a “Get Set” evacuation warning for Zones E024 and E061, masking the Verdi and Long Valley areas alongside the California-Nevada border.
Residents in these areas are being instructed to put together to evacuate as the fireplace continues to develop.
Across the border in Nevada, the menace has already triggered necessary “Go Now” evacuation orders north of Verdi and northwest of Somersett.
With the fireplace spreading quickly and the Tahoe area close by, residents alongside the California-Nevada border are being urged to keep alert and be prepared to go away.
